IGT acknowledges problem gambling as an issue that cannot and must not be ignored. IGT believes that all stakeholders in the gaming industry must take a pro-active approach to problem and underage gambling. www.IGT.com/ResponsibleGaming

Community Activism

IGT takes seriously its role as a responsible global citizen in the countries and communities where it does business. IGT's community involvement embraces a breadth of needs including education, health and human services, and the arts with special emphasis on "active" involvement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will IGT support my organization's request for general operating funds?
We support organizations that provide direct services to individuals and communities in need and which fund specific projects with measurable results, rather than for general operating support.
My organization receives significant funding from local, state, and federal government. Are we still eligible for funding?
Yes. Funding from other sources does not affect your eligibility, as long as your organization is a qualified 501 (c) (3) and meets our guidelines. We encourage diversity in funding resources.
How can I submit a contribution request to IGT?
First, your organization should have a program that supports one or more of IGT's focus areas. Then you must submit an online application. IGT makes contributions to organizations that address focus area needs or specifically targeted needs in the communities in which our employees live and work and our customers operate. IGT also supports to a limited degree other community and civic organizations.
What does IGT fund?
In general, we fund programs that have existed for at least one year and are focused on the following areas:

  • Arts and Multi-Cultural - Activities which broaden public exposure to the arts and multi-cultural events
  • Health and Wellness - Provide financial assistance to support programs that address unmet needs by human services agencies
  • Education - Support of educational institutions, educational development, and economic and business education programs. Requests from elementary, middle and high schools must be sponsored by an IGT employee who has a child or grandchild attending the school.
Realizing we cannot fund every worthwhile non-profit organization, the Contributions Committee focuses on:
  • Organizations to which our employees and/or customers are contributing their time and resources
  • Organizations that support causes which will directly or indirectly assist IGT in achieving continued growth and success
IGT supports non-profit, tax-exempt, 501 (c) (3) organizations in communities where we do business.
What is IGT's commitment to the community?
IGT is committed to making a significant, positive impact on the communities in which the Company operates. How much time should an organization allow for consideration of a donation request?
An organization should allow a minimum of 90 days for its request to be considered.
How many requests may an organization submit in a calendar year?
IGT will consider 1 (one) request per year per organization. If you have multiple events or programs for which you are seeking funding, you must include all the information in the one request.

Diversity

Employee Diversity

Diversity is a strong component of IGT's success, and the Company is committed to developing a culture of inclusion which involves recruiting, talent development, and overall building of a diverse workforce. Our diversity management takes the lead in developing and implementing a breadth of efforts that involve both internal activities and external alliances.

Supplier Diversity

IGT is continually seeking out and expanding its local and national base of suppliers, especially those owned by minorities, women, the physically and mentally challenged, and service-disabled veterans. We encourage our suppliers and contractors to involve these types of businesses through partnerships, joint ventures and subcontracts.

Policy

International Game Technology is committed to the solicitation, preservation, and strengthening of Minority-, Women-, Physically/Mentally Challenged-, and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned businesses, locally and nationwide. These businesses are, and will continue to be, encouraged to participate in the procurement activities of International Game Technology at every level.

We also encourage all of our suppliers and contractors to provide for the involvement of these types of businesses through our partnerships, joint ventures, subcontracts, and other contractual opportunities.

As such, IGT has and continues to accumulate data relative to the number of suppliers that fall into each diversity category, as well as the expenditures by supplier. This data is regularly reported to Senior Management. We believe that this type of exposure services to highlight our commitment and strengthen the opportunities for the expansion of these businesses within IGT's supplier base, as well as, in the general business community.

Definitions

Women-Owned Businesses
For the purposes of classification and reporting, a woman-owned business is defined as a concern that is at least 51 percent legally owned by a woman or women who also control and operate it. In this context, "control" means exercising the power to make policy decisions, and "operate" means being actively involved in the day-to-day management.
Minority-Owned Businesses
For the purposes of classification and reporting, a minority owned business is defined as a concern that is at least 51 percent owned, and also controlled and operated by a person or people in designated socially and economically disadvantaged groups. These groups are African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, American Indians, Eskimos, Aleuts and other groups as may be recognized by the Office of Advocacy, United States Small Business Administration, Washington D.C.
Physically/Mentally Challenged Businesses
For the purpose of classification and reporting, a physically/mentally challenged business is, in cooperation with NISH (employment for the severely disabled), an agency in charge of providing administration and oversight for the Javits Wagner O'Day Act (JWOD) contracts and to find Federal employment opportunities for people with severe disabilities through JWOD.
Requirements include, at least, 65% severely disabled employee representation.
The enterprise must meet financial and administrative infra-structural requirements of the Federal government.
Service Disabled Veteran Owned
For the purposes of classification and reporting, a service-disabled veteran owned business is defined as a business that is at least 51 percent owned, and also controlled and operated by a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service, and who was discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable, with a service connected disability that was incurred or aggravated in the line of duty.

'Green' Initiatives

IGT is also proactive in its recycling and energy saving efforts. IGT facilities annually recycle millions of pieces of cardboard, metal, paper and glass, as well as aluminum cans, plastic bottles, printer cartridges, wire harnesses, pallets and fluorescent light bulbs. While IGT does not generate a large amount of hazardous waste, small quantities of inks and solvents are recycled by an outside disposal company.

The Company has steadily reduced the amount of energy consumed in its daily operations. A major example was a recent lighting retrofit that replaced more than 5,000 antiquated light fixtures and reduced energy consumption by 3.4 megawatt hours a year. Energy savings have also been realized through installation of lighting occupancy sensors and "as needed" use of service and electrical equipment instead of around-the-clock operation.

In compliance with the European Union (EU) Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive of 2006, IGT began manufacturing RoHS-compliant machines for European distribution. Although not required to do so, IGT now includes many of the parts that meet or exceed the RoHS standards in machines manufactured for the US and countries outside the EU.

Product Stewardship

Canada Recycling Regulations

Under the British Columbia Ministry of Environment, Environmental Management Act, Recycling Regulation, IGT is recognized as a "producer" of electronic/electrical product. A producer is defined in the regulation as "a person who manufactures the product and sells, offers for sale, distributes or uses in a commercial enterprise the product in British Columbia under the manufacturer's own brand."

The preliminary duties of a producer of electronic/electrical product are as follows:

  • Have an approved Product Stewardship Plan (as described in Part 2 of the Regulation)
  • Submit the Product Stewardship Plan to the director for approval
  • Launch the Product Stewardship Program by July 1, 2012
The approval of the Product Stewardship Plan by a director is contingent upon satisfying the requirements of specific subject matters, which include:
  • Achieving a 75% recovery rate within a reasonable time frame
  • Recognizing efforts necessary to achieve performance requirements or targets as determined by the director or IGT
  • Showing satisfactory consultation with stakeholders prior to submitting the plan for the approval and provided opportunity for stakeholders input in the implementation and operation of the Product Stewardship Program
  • Adequately providing the processes available for IGT to collect and pay the cost of collecting and managing the products that are currently or previously sold, offered for sale or distributed
  • Providing reasonable and free consumer access to collection facilities
  • A consumer awareness program that includes the Product Stewardship Program, Location of Collection Facilities and how to manage products in a safe manner
  • Performance of the Plan
  • Management of costs incurred by the Plan
  • Management of environmental impacts by the product through the product's life cycle
    • Plans to:
      • Eliminate toxic components
      • Increase Energy and Resource Efficiency
      • Designing future game platforms to improve reusability or recyclability
      • Reuse, Recycle, and Recover as much of a game as possible

Once all the preliminary duties, assigned to IGT as a producer, have been executed, a review of the Product Stewardship Plan must be completed every five years thereafter. Following the review IGT is responsible to submit any proposed amendments to the plan for review by the director or advise that no amendments to the approved plan are necessary. IGT will also be responsible for submitting an annual report that demonstrates the effectiveness of IGT’s Product Stewardship Plan by reporting on items that are specified within the regulations.
